World Water Day celebrates water and raises awareness of the 2.2 billion people living without access to safe water. It is about taking action to tackle the global water crisis. At the United Nations Summit on Environment and Development held in Rio de Janeiro from 3 to 14 June 1992, the United Nations adopted a resolution to designate 22 March every year as World Water Day and has been held annually since 1993.
